‘How government may beat oil price shock amid COVID-19’
Against the backdrop of the current downturn in the global oil market and fiscal disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, economic experts yesterday suggested the Federal Government would only survive the storms if it relaxes its stranglehold on power.
The items rejected by the government in the Oronsaye Report would undermine moves towards reforms, including, devolution of powers, downsizing and cost-effective management of the over-bloated civil service structure.
The government of former President Goodluck Jonathan was wrong to have substantially rejected the submission of the committee after the committee had consulted widely with relevant institutions and the general public. The incumbent Muhammadu Buhari administration, they said, is also wrong in moving on with its implementation.
